POETRY ANTHOLOGY CELEBRATES LIFE OF NIGERIAN WRITER

On 10 November 2005, writers and human rights advocates around the world will celebrate the life of Ken Saro-Wiwa, the Ogoni writer and dissident who was executed along with eight others in Nigeria a decade ago for campaigning against the devastation of the Niger Delta by oil companies.

As part of the Remember Saro-Wiwa celebrations, Flipped Eye Publishing will launch an anthology featuring poems from acclaimed African writers around the world, including Amiri Baraku, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Syl Cheney Coker. "Dance the Guns to Silence: 100 poems for Ken Saro Wiwa" includes poems about freedom of expression, minority rights and social and ecological justice.

Royalties from the anthology will go to the Ken Saro-Wiwa Foundation, which works to honour the memory of Saro-Wiwa and continue his work to protect the livelihood, environment and rights of the Ogoni minority in Nigeria.
