PROBIDAD JOINS REGIONAL FREE EXPRESSION NETWORK
Probidad has joined forces with four other Central American civil society organisations to launch a network aimed at promoting freedom of expression and access to information in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
The IFEX member is a founder of the Central American Working Group, which includes C-Libre (Comité por la Libre Expresión), ACI Participa, The Violata Barrios de Chamorro Foundation (Fundación Violeta Barrios de Chamorro) and Panama's Ombudsman's Office.
The Group was formed at a conference in early October in the Dominican Republic that examined the state of access to information in Central America.
With support from the Trust for the Americas, the Working Group will foster local and regional initiatives to promote freedom of expression and share information and experiences.
Activities will include forums in the region that bring together journalists, academics and civil society organisations to discuss campaigns on access to information laws. Seminars will also be held to raise awareness of media ethics and the social responsibilities of journalists.
