SEAPA CONFERENCE TACKLES FREE EXPRESSION AND THE INTERNET IN ASIA

The Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA) sponsored a conference in Manila, the Philippines, on 19-21 April 2006 that brought together Internet experts, bloggers and independent online news providers to share the latest ideas on battling Internet censorship, promoting citizen journalism and using online tools for free expression advocacy.

"Free Expression in Asian Cyberspace" was hosted by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), which is a member of SEAPA.

Several IFEX members attended the conference, including the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, the Pakistan Press Foundation, ARTICLE 19, the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders.
