ARTICLE 19 OFFERS TOOL FOR MONITORING HUMAN RIGHTS IN AFRICA

ARTICLE 19 has published a checklist designed for civil society organisations who wish to analyse the extent to which countries have implemented the African Union's "Declaration of Principles on Freedom of Expression." The checklist allows organisations working on freedom of expression and access to information to determine where countries are deficient in fulfilling the declaration's provisions.

The checklist can be used to research and write shadow reports to be submitted to the African Commission on Human and People's Rights, says ARTICLE 19. It can also help establish priorities for freedom of expression campaigns and advocacy initiatives.

The checklist is available at: http://www.article19.org/pdfs/tools/africa-foe-checklist.pdf
