JED ASSESSES PRESS FREEDOM IN CENTRAL AFRICA

Press freedom has deteriorated in Central Africa over the past year due to armed conflict, divisive electoral processes and the lack of democratic structures to protect freedom of expression, a new report by Journaliste en danger (JED) has found.

The report examines the state of press freedom in eight countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

It is the third annual report produced by JED on behalf of the Organisation of Central African Media (Organisation des Média Afrique Centrale), a network of organisations that monitors press freedom in the region. It is only available in French.
