Whether from a dictator who has sent cyber police onto the Internet, or from a fraudster trying to steal your identity, learn how to protect yourself from threats online with Access Now's guide on digital security.

"Protecting Your Security Online" covers secure use of email and chat, good password habits, keeping your computer free of viruses and spyware, getting around censorship online while remaining anonymous and tactics for using mobile phones more safely.

There are also loads of links to more in-depth resources.

"Whether you live in Syria or the U.S., the risks that are posed to your online identity and your personal security are shockingly real - from identity theft and credit card fraud, to hacks into our email accounts and blogs," says Access Now.
