KIDNAPPED JOURNALIST MURDERED

On 7 November 2005, the body of Iraqi journalist Ahmed Hossein Al Maliki was found in the northern city of Mosul, making him the 74th journalist killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led war began in March 2003, says Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières, RSF).

Al Maliki had been abducted by insurgents more than two months ago as he was leaving an Internet cafe in a district of Mosul. No one has claimed responsibility for the abduction or killing. Al Maliki worked for "Tall Afar" ("Today"), an independent weekly based in Mosul. He was married with children.

RSF says more journalists have been killed in Iraq than during the 20-year Vietnam war. More than 60 per cent of the 74 victims have been Iraqis.
