LEBANON: PETITION URGES JUSTICE FOR SAMIR KASSIR

5 July 2005

A European coalition has launched an online petition calling for justice in the murder of Lebanese columnist Samir Kassir.

Kassir was killed in a car bomb attack in Beirut on 2 June 2005. He was an outspoken critic of Syria's presence in Lebanon and helped mobilise massive public protests in March that eventually forced Syria to withdraw troops from the country. The petition will be presented to the European Parliament in October 2005.
