President signs freedom of information law


(CEMESP/IFEX) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has signed a Liberian Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill into law.

Presidential Press Secretary Cyrus Badio told a news conference on 4 October 2010 that the president has fowarded the signed FOI law to the Ministry of Foreign Affiars of Liberia to be printed on a hand bill.

The signing of the FOI law by President Sirleaf now makes Liberia the first West African country with an FOI law.

CEMESP wants to reiterate its thanks to all its partners and supporters for their support for this initiative. The organisation looks forward to a successful implementation process.
