OAS RAPPORTEUR TO VISIT MEXICO
The Organization of American States' Special Rapporteur on Free Expression, Eduardo Bertoni, will visit Mexico from 18 to 26 August to assess the state of free expression there, reports the Rapporteur's Office.
Bertoni will meet with federal and state government officials, non-governmental organisations, media representatives and others involved in free-expression issues. During his visit, particular attention will be paid to access-to-information laws, the protection of journalists' sources, criminal defamation laws and the situation of community radio stations in various states.
The purpose of country visits is to gather information and investigate the most relevant problems related to the exercise of freedom of expression. The visits promote dialogue and the creation of appropriate mechanisms and environments to facilitate freedom of expression.
