MISSING JOURNALIST FOUND SLAIN
Police in the Mexican state of Veracruz are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of reporter Adolfo Sánchez Guzmán, whose body was found near Mendoza on 30 November 2006.
Sánchez, who had been missing since 28 November, was shot twice in the head and had bruises and stab wounds on his chest, reported the Institute for Press and Society (Instituto Prensa y Sociedad, IPYS), the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières, RSF) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
The body of another man, César Martínez López, was found beside Sánchez.
Local police have arrested two suspects. They say the assailants were after Martínez, who had allegedly stolen their truck. Sánchez had been investigating the theft of merchandise from trucks, according to RSF.
The reporter's family and colleagues do not know of any threats against Sánchez, who usually covered regional politics. Sánchez, 31, was an editor for the news website Orizaba en Vivo. He had also worked for the television station Televisa Veracruz and for Xhora Ori Stereo 99.3, a local radio station.
He is the eighth journalist killed this year in Mexico, according to RSF. Four of the deaths occurred in November alone (see.
