Dutch Donor Launches Morocco Fund for Investigative Journalism

17 January 2006

Press Now, the Dutch media development organisation, has launched a fund aimed at supporting independent investigative reporting in Morocco. The organisation says most media outlets in the North African country operate under economic and political pressures which hamper their ability to invest in long term investigative projects.

The fund is the first stage of a media support programme being developed by Press Now in Morocco. Media outlets can apply for grants of up to 5,000 Euros (US$6,000), which cover salaries and research and travel costs.

Applications should be presented in French and should demonstrate that a proposed project fosters debate on issues relevant to Moroccan society.

The deadline for applications is 20 February 2006. Application forms can be obtained by emailing Steven Assies at Press Now (assies@pressnow.nl).
