Bus driver attacks journalist over critical story

(FNJ/IFEX) - Yubaraj Gautam, a journalist of "Sandakpur Daily", was beaten up by a local bus driver on 18 October 2008 in Pasupatinagar, Ilam, an eastern district of Nepal.

According to Satendra Jabegu, president of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Ilam chapter, Gautam had published a news story alleging that local vehicles are charging more than the public rate. As a result, one of the bus drivers attacked Gautam.

The suspect later apologized and promised that he will never repeat it.

FNJ condemns the attack on the journalist and at the same time welcomes the apology made by the driver.
