Incident details

Death threat

Abdesh Kumar Jha, Journalist
(FNJ/IFEX) - On 1 January 2010, a group of four individuals in the Inaruwa Sunsari district issued a death threat against journalist Abdesh Kumar Jha, a local correspondent for "Kantipur Daily". The four people arrived at the journalist's home on two motorcycles. They referred to the fact that Jha had reported on Indian nationals getting Nepali citizenship. The group also said that it would kill the journalist by setting off a bomb in his rented house.

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) strongly condemns the incident and calls upon the government to guarantee the safety of journalists working in the interior. FNJ also demands that the local authority immediately identify the people who issued the threat against Jha and arrest them as soon as possible.
