Release

Ibrahim Soumana Goah, Editor
(MFWA/IFEX) - On 30 September 2009, Ibrahim Soumana Goah, managing editor of "Le Témoin", an independent Niamey-based newspaper, was granted bail after spending nine days in preventive custody.

MFWA's correspondent reported that Goah was freed following the withdrawal of the earlier complaint filed against him by the former communications minister, Mohamed Ben Omar.

"Le Témoin" apologised to the former minister on 28 September.

Goah was arrested in connection with a 14 September article that linked Ben Omar to a financial scandal in 2001 involving the privatisation of the state-owned telecommunications company.
