Nigeria's Freedom of Information Act

In May 2011, Nigeria became only the second country in West Africa to have a freedom of information law, giving Nigerians the power and resources to unearth facts, battle corruption and hold officials and institutions accountable. Nigerian civil society groups, including IFEX member Media Rights Agenda, had fought for more than a decade for the law.
