The Paraguay Union of Journalists (Sindicato de Periodistas del Paraguay, SPP) is teaming up with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) to run a seminar next month aimed at giving journalists in Paraguay the proper tools to better report press-freedom issues.

The seminars will provide participants with techniques for reporting press-freedom issues in a fair, independent and balanced way. They will be interactive and enable participants to debate issues and examine case studies from the region. Respected journalists and free-expression experts from Latin America and the United States will also give presentations.

ICFJ is providing scholarships to support the attendance of eight rural-based Paraguayan journalists at the seminar, which will take place in the capital, Asunción, from 30 March to 1 April. The deadline for applying is 16 March.

ICFJ has been running a three-year project to raise awareness of free-expression issues among journalists in the Americas.
Funding is provided by the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation
