Explosives set off at home of Peruvian journalist who reported on local corruption

In the early morning of 10 December 2013, the home of journalist Edvan Ríos Chanca was attacked with an explosive device that destroyed the house’s door and windows. The journalist had worked at the newspaper Correo in Huancayo, where he frequently reported on alleged acts of corruption by the regional government.


Journalists from defunct paper report judicial harassment in Peru

On 18 November 2013, two editors and investigative journalist of the defunct newspaper El Sol de Los Andes, which was sold in several cities of central Peru, were to receive their sentences in a case of alleged defamation, one of the six cases they are involved in because of their journalistic work.


Journalists from the same paper sentenced in separate defamation cases in Peru

Esther Valenzuela Zorrilla, editor of the newspaper La Calle of Ayacucho, and Asencio Canchari Sulca, a contributor for the same paper, were sentenced for alleged defamation in separate cases. They were both accused in relation to their monitoring of irregularities in public works.
