(IPYS/IFEX) - On 10 May 2009, thirty police officers beat a group of journalists who were attempting to interview football players from the Colegio Nacional de Iquitos (CNI) club after they lost against Cienciano del Cusco in a match played at the Max Agustín stadium in the city of Iquitos, Loreto region, in northeastern Perú.

Once the match was over, the journalists walked onto the football field in order to interview the players but they were stopped by police officers. The journalists then entered the changing rooms without permission. The police officers struck Radio Loreto reporter Juan Carlos Rodríguez Pinchi and América Televisión correspondent Greguar Ross with their shields and truncheons, leaving them with mild injuries.

The officers' actions provoked other reporters, resulting in a fight between police and journalists that lasted half an hour.
