(GDF/IFEX) – On 27 July 2000, Irina Grebneva, editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper “Arsenievskie Vesti”, was sentenced to five days’ imprisonment.
“Arsenievskie Vesti” is a weekly newspaper published in Vladivostok which has a circulation of 13,000. In issue 29 (14 to 20 July) of the paper, Grebneva published an article called “Ripped Elections”, which included quotations from Vladivostok Governor Evgenij Nazdratenko’s speeches. Nazdratenko used many “unprintable” words and phrases in his speech, and Grebneva decided to print them without any deletions.
Judge L.Vedjun found Grebneva guilty of “slight hooliganism”, under Article 158 of the Administrative Code, and sentenced her to five days’ imprisonment.
