TAKE ACTION! RUSSIA: RSF PETITION CALLS FOR INTERNATIONAL INQUIRY INTO POLITKOVSKAYA MURDER

17 October 2006

In response to the shocking murder of investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya on 7 October 2006 in Moscow, Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières, RSF) has launched a petition demanding the creation of an international commission of
inquiry "to put an end to the impunity enjoyed by those who murder journalists in Russia."
Politkovskaya had fearlessly exposed authoritarian abuses in Russia, including those committed by the military in the "dirty war" in Chechnya (see:
http://www.ifex.org/en/content/view/full/78168/).
Twenty-one journalists have been murdered in Russia since Vladimir Putin became president in 2000, according to RSF. None of these murders have been solved. To sign the petition, visit: http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=19163

A website for people to post messages of respect about Politkovskaya's life and work has also been set up at: http://www.annapolitkovskaya.com
