Attacks on freedom of expression registered by GDF's Monitoring Service in 2009

(GDF/IFEX) - In 2009, journalists and media remained under pressure. As before, attacks on media workers were registered every month; journalists were detained while fulfilling their professional duties and increasingly often threatened. They were accused of extremism, prosecuted, and had civil claims lodged against them. The number of conflicts involving Internet publications increased in number, and denial of access to information became a habitual practice.
