RSF LAUNCHES REVAMPED DAMOCLES WEBSITE
Reporters Without Borders' (Reporters sans frontières, RSF) legal division, the Damocles Network, has revamped its website to provide more user-friendly information on journalists' safety, the International Criminal Court and insurance policies for freelance journalists.
Available in English and French, the website allows users to download RSF's Practical Guide for Journalists and the Charter for the Safety of Journalists working in War Zones or Dangerous Areas.
There is also a guide (in English, French and Spanish) for victims of human-rights violations who wish to appeal to the International Criminal Court in Geneva, Switzerland. It explains how the Court works, what its jurisdiction is and how to bring a case before it.
Freelance journalists covering foreign stories will find practical information on low cost insurance policies and safety equipment, including flak jackets.
Established in 2001, the Damocles Network conducts investigations into unsolved murders of journalists around the world and promotes journalists' safety. Its members include legal experts, lawyers, judges, journalists and specialists in international humanitarian law and press law. Spanish judge Baltazar Garzón is the network's honorary president.
