COMMUNITY RADIO PRESENTER KILLED

A radio producer in Uganda was raped and killed by unidentified assailants, report Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the Eastern Africa Journalists Association (EAJA).

Rebecca Wilbrod Kasujja, a presenter for the community radio station Buwama FM, a community radio station in the Mpigi district, south of Kampala, was attacked by a gang of unidentified assailants on the morning of 17 February. She was on her way to work. Residents of her village discovered her body later that day.

According to IFJ, the motive behind her killing remains unknown, but fellow journalists believe it is in relation to her work. Buwama police say that investigations are going on, but no suspects have been apprehended.
