Internews Assists Independent Media in Ukraine

Internews has announced the launch of a major program to support independent media in Ukraine, following the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)'s awarding of a five-year grant to the media development organisation.

The program will focus on strengthening the financial viability of independent media, training local journalists in professional news reporting and lobbying for legal reforms. Internews says it also plans to promote women's issues in Ukraine and work on curriculum reform in Ukrainian journalism schools.

Internews will work with five partners - Internews Ukraine, the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), the International Renaissance Foundation, the Independent Association of Broadcasters of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Newspaper Publishers Association.
