Assault

Serhiy Zaleskiy, Camera operator
(IMI/IFEX) - 2 September 2010 - According to a report by Obcom's online edition, on the night of 2 September a cameraman for television and radio company Ltava was beaten in Poltava.

As of 2 September, camera operator Serhiy Zaleskiy could not be reached by phone as he was in the hospital.

At around midnight, Zaleskiy had finished filming a story for his TV company and was on his way home. When he passed by a marketplace, the security guards barred his way and asked why he had a camera on private property. After they were informed of Zaleskiy's job, they started beating him. They said that Ltava had aired an unflattering story about the marketplace.

The incident was brought to the attention of the superior officer of the police department of Poltava region, Oleksander Rudyak.

This is not the first time Zaleskiy has been involved in such an incident. In June 2009, the camera operator was shooting a news story in the street when someone assaulted him.
