TAKE ACTION! AL-JAZEERA CAMERAMAN DETAINED AT GUANTANAMO BAY

28 November 2006

Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières, RSF) has launched a petition calling on U.S. military authorities to release Al-Jazeera cameraman Sami al-Haj from detention. Al-Haj has been held at the Guantanamo Bay military base in Cuba since 12 June 2002. He is the only known journalist being held at the base.

U.S. authorities consider him to be an "enemy combatant" on the grounds, which have never been established, that he ran a pro-terrorist website, engaged in arms trafficking, entered Afghanistan illegally and interviewed Osama Bin Laden.
