(IPYS/IFEX) - On 20 May 2010, the 20th Trial Court of Caracas's Metropolitan Area, presided by Judge Gustavo Jiménez, decided to extend by one year journalist Leocenis García's detention.

On 3 May, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested an extension of the journalist's detention by one year. García has already been in prison for more than two years.

The journalist's preliminary hearing has been suspended more than 70 times. He has been accused of carrying arms without a permit and causing damage to private property.

IPYS demands transparency in the process.
