MFWA TO HOLD STRATEGY MEETING FOR LAWYERS AND JOURNALISTS

The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) is holding a two-day strategy meeting in Accra, Ghana, in November to strengthen legal assistance programmes for journalists in the region.

From 1-2 November 2004, MFWA's Network of Lawyers for the Defence of Journalists in West Africa will discuss ways of improving journalists' access to legal advice and support, and cooperating to investigate cases where journalists or media outlets have been attacked with impunity. Eight lawyers from different countries are expected to participate in the meeting, as well as representatives of media associations and free expression organizations.

A new book on Ghana's media and free speech laws will also be launched.
