CIVIL SOCIETY TO HOST "CITIZENS' WSIS"

IFEX members will be joining civil society activists from around the world to promote human rights and social justice at the Citizens' Summit on the Information Society (CSIS), which meets on 16-18 November 2005.

Held alongside the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), the CSIS will consist of a series of panels and conferences addressing the main WSIS issues (bridging the digital divide, Internet governance, freedom of expression) from the perspective of civil society.

It will also serve as a forum for supporting local civil society advocates in Tunisia.

A detailed programme will be available in early November.

IFEX members supporting the Citizen's Summit include the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters, ARTICLE 19, Canadian Journalists for Free Expression, Human Rights Watch, Index on Censorship, Norwegian PEN, the World Association of Newspapers and the World Press Freedom Committee.

CSIS organisers are inviting citizens' groups, civil society organisations, government delegations and other parties to participate in the Citizen's Summit or offer support. Contact: support@citizens-summit.org
