(MISA/IFEX) - The trial of Kelvin Jakachira, a reporter with the banned newspaper "The Daily News", has been set for 1 August 2005. He is accused of practicing journalism without accreditation, in terms of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA).

Jakachira's trial date was set on 27 May, when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa. If convicted, he risks two years in jail or a $600,000 (approx. US$67) fine, or both, in terms of Section 83 of the AIPPA, for practicing journalism without accreditation from the government-controlled Media and Information Commission.
