AJI HONOURS INDONESIAN PRESS FREEDOM CHAMPION

A journalist who is pushing for Indonesia's House of Representatives to pass a freedom of information bill is the inaugural winner of the Press Freedom Award by the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), reports the Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA).

Agus Sudibyo, deputy director for the Science, Aesthetics and Technology Foundation (SET), stood out among 52 nominees for "improving and fighting for press freedom" through his articles on media freedom and his activism in the Coalition for Freedom of Information.

The inaugural award was presented in a ceremony on World Press Freedom Day in Jakarta.
