Do you know any Canadian writers who have put their career on the line to scoop a story? Then PEN Canada asks you to nominate one of them for its Paul Kidd Courage Prize, awarded to writers and journalists who have shown exceptional courage and integrity in the interest of free expression.

Eligible nominees must be Canadian or an employee of a Canadian publishing or media company, and meet at least two of the following criteria: have made a significant impact through their writing or broadcasting; have demonstrated a willingness to put their career on the line to get to the heart of a story; and have shown courage and taken an independent viewpoint.

The award is named after the Canadian foreign correspondent, Paul Kidd, who filed reports from more than 70 countries, braving street violence, gunfire, terrorism and arrest. He died in 2002.

Deadline for submissions is 12 July 2007. Please send your nomination, including a cover letter and supporting material, to: PEN Canada, 21 Ryerson Ave, Suite 301, Toronto, ON M5T 2P3, Canada. You can also fax your submission to: +1 (416) 703-3870, or email: [email protected]
