CALL FOR CANDIDATES FOR THE BAYEUX-CALVADOS WAR CORRESPONDENTS AWARDS

War correspondents and photographers from all over the world are invited to apply for the Bayeux-Calvados War Correspondents Prize, which honours journalists who risk their lives in the world's hotspots to cover the news. The deadline for nominations is 6 June 2008.

The prize carries four cash awards of 7,600 Euro (US$12,000) each in the categories of television, radio, print and photography.

Four special awards, worth 3,000 to 3,800 Euros (US$4,700-$6,000) each, are also up for grabs, including a Young Reporter Prize for journalists under 28 years old.

The entry should report on a conflict and its consequences for the civil population, or an event concerning the defence of press freedom and democracy. The feature must have been published between 1 June 2007 and 31 May 2008.

This year, for the first time in the 15-year history of the prize, the jury will be chaired by a woman, Austrian war correspondent Antonia Rados. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Bayeux, France, in October 2008.
