Enter IPI's lucrative news innovation contest

Think you know what the next breakthrough is in digital journalism? Thanks to Google, there's US$2.7 million to be won in the International Press Institute's (IPI) News Innovation Contest, which is aimed at finding and funding breakthrough ideas that will have a lasting impact on the future of digital news in communities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Applications will be accepted until 1 June.

IPI will use Google's hefty donation to award grants to both non-profit and for-profit organisations working on digital projects in one of three categories: news platform, sustainability or training.

"In this time of global change and conflict, free flows of information have never been more important," said IPI. "We are proud to play our part in fostering innovation to ensure that the news continues to hold up a mirror to the societies it is meant to serve."
