IRFS chairman harassed while in hospital, presumably by government agents posing as doctors

(IRFS/IFEX) - IRFS Chairman Emin Huseynov was hospitalised after being beaten by officers of the Nasimi Region Police Department #22 on 14 June 2008. On 17 June, he was transferred to a regular hospital room from the Centralized Emergency Medical Assistance Hospital. According to Mehman Aliyev, director of the "Turan" information agency, Huseynov underwent a CT scan at the Nasradin Tusi Scientific Research Institution.

According to Aliyev, Huseynov is not feeling well and cannot eat any food. Huseynov himself told the "Media Forum" website that he has headaches, cannot eat anything and can only sip water. "I still experience some dizziness and nausea. The doctors in the critical care department examined me today. They suggested that I stay in the hospital for one more week because I sustained head and brain trauma."

Huseynov then described a disturbing incident. "Two white-robed people entered my hospital room in the morning [of 17 June]. One of them introduced himself as the chief of the department and the other as the doctor who received me. Both of them told me that my condition was normal and I should leave the hospital at once. They said I didn't sustain any trauma. They didn't speak like doctors, but rather gave orders like police officers. I told them this and refused to talk to them. A little while later, the chief of the department came to my room, and I told him about the incident. In reply to this he said, 'I don't know who said what, but you sustained light brain trauma'."

"The statements made by IRFS Chairman Emin Huseynov to the press about being subjected to pressure by the police are far from the truth. His statements, which have been published in different media outlets, are contradictory," said Internal Ministry Press Service employee Ehsan Zahidov when questioned by "Turan".

According to Zahidov, the Huseynov case has been investigated. "On 14 June, a group of people held an unapproved event in a café. Police demanded that the event discontinue. Twenty people were brought to Nasimi Region Police Department #22 where they were identified and asked for some explanation. After they were questioned they were released. Subsequently, Huseynov said he was not feeling well. An ambulance was called immediately. During the medical examination, it was discovered that his health condition was connected to his previous illness. Huseynov's blood pressure was very high, rising up to 190, and that is why he lost consciousness," said the Internal Ministry employee.

Previously, the Nasimi Region Police Department #22 told Radio Liberty that Huseynov had injured himself.

Huseynov insists that he was beaten and he told the "Media Forum" site that he remembers who struck him. He added that he was examined by the medical court examiner, and that investigator Yusif Abdinov, of the police department #22, interrogated him.
