Sign a petition demanding the release of jailed bloggers; support prisoners of conscience marathon

The Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS) wants you to sign an online petition addressed to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, asking her to encourage the Azerbaijani government to release imprisoned bloggers Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli during her upcoming visit to the country in early July. IRFS is also conducting a fundraiser marathon, "Support for Prisoners of Conscience," in honour of National Press Day on 22 July.

The bloggers' satirical postings on the Internet on government corruption, education and freedom of expression are widely seen as the reason for their detention since July 2009. Clinton's intervention would be a strong voice in defence of free speech, says the petition. Organisers are attempting to get 1,000 signatures. Please visit:

The fundraiser marathon is being organised to assist imprisoned journalist Eynulla Fatullayev, along with the two bloggers. Fatullayev has been imprisoned since 2007 for writing an article that accused high-ranking officials of being the masterminds behind the 2005 murder of journalist Elmar Huseynov.

Funds raised will be distributed among the families of the journalist and bloggers. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the marathon. For more information, please contact: (@)
