Cameraman assaulted

(IPYS/IFEX) - On 21 November 2008, journalist Carla Flores and camera operator Carlos Saavedra, of the Red Bolivisión television network, were physically and verbally assaulted in the La Paz Public Prosecutors' Office by a female relative of an individual who died during violent demonstrations that took place in Pando on 11 September. The assault took place when a group of journalists were waiting for the prosecutor in charge of the case.

The woman, who was in the office of prosecutor Eduardo Morales, began insulting Flores and accused her of receiving money from those who oppose the government. When the woman realised she was being videotaped, she approached camera operator Carlos Saavedra, scratched him on the neck and kicked him twice in the testicles.

Mary Carrasco, the attorney for the relatives of the Pando victims, justified the woman's actions saying that she was close to one of the deceased.
