Two individuals arrested following investigation into sabotage of radio station; mayor of Santa Cruz assaults journalist Marcia Cedeño

(RSF/IFEX) - Reporters Without Borders today noted the arrest on 3 March 2009 of two suspects, Juan Carlos and Saul Herrero Abrego, in the investigation into the sabotage of Radio Rurrenabaque radio station, on 4 September 2008, in the department of Beni, northeastern Colombia. The two brothers are reportedly members of the Beni Civic Committee that abducted and held a journalist from the public radio network Red Patria Nueva during a wave of violence in the autonomous regions (see the release of 15 September 2008 - ).

Elsewhere, Reporters Without Borders condemned as shameful the behaviour of Percy Fernández, the mayor of Santa Cruz in eastern Bolivia, who insulted and assaulted journalist Marcia Cedeño, of the privately-owned Unitel television station, during a press conference on 2 March 2009. A week earlier, Fernández behaved similarly towards a photographer.
