Send your support to the Cambodian Five

IFEX is asking for messages of solidarity and support for the Cambodian Five, human rights defenders imprisoned since April 28, 2016.

The #FreeThe5KH campaign aims to build awareness and garner support for the detained human rights defenders, remind them that the public has not forgotten about their cause and help keep their morale high while they remain in arbitrary detention.

Four senior staff members from the Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC), Mr. Ny Sokha, Mr. Yi Soksan, Mr. Nay Vanda and Ms. Lim Mony, are currently imprisoned, along with deputy secretary-general of the National Election Committee (and former ADHOC staff member) Mr. Ny Chakrya.

The Cambodian Five are accused of bribing a witness for providing food and transportation cost reimbursement to a woman they interviewed, alleged to have been in an extra-marital affair with the deputy leader of Cambodia's primary opposition party. These charges are widely perceived as politically motivated, amounting to legal harassment on the part of the standing government.

IFEX members have signed on to an open letter expressing our concern over the deteriorating situation in Cambodia generally and the detention of the Cambodian Five in particular. They join regional and local groups that have also issued joint statements calling for freedom for the Five.

IFEX member the Cambodian Centre for Human Rights will be reading out the messages collected live over Cambodian radio for the detainees in prison to hear.

Raise your voice for the Cambodian Five and show the detainees that they are remembered. Send your message of support, and follow #Freethe5KH on Facebook and Twitter for updates on their case.
