NOMINATIONS WANTED FOR ORLANDO SIERRA PRIZE FOR COURAGE 2008

The Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP), "Semana" magazine and the energy company Petrobras are seeking nominations for the Orlando Sierra Prize, awarded to a regional journalist or organisation based in Colombia that demonstrates outstanding courage while working in risky and often difficult situations. The deadline for entries is 31 July 2008.

The prize, as part of the second annual Semana-Petrobras journalism awards that recognise the best stories on Colombia told from a regional perspective, is given in honour of Orlando Sierra, deputy director of "La Patriá" newspaper. Sierra, who was well-known for his column that criticised local corruption, was killed by hitmen in 2002.

The winner will receive 15 million pesos (US$8,500).

Nominations accompanied by a letter highlighting the nominee's successes over the past years and a sample of work published between 1 May 2007 and 30 April 2008 should be sent to "Semana" at: premioregional (@) semana.com

For details, email: info (@) flip.org.co or premioregional (@) semana.com or see: http://www.semana.com/semanapetrobras/home.html
