Journalist released after 72 hours in detention

(JED/IFEX) - 27 October 2011 - Journaliste en Danger (JED) welcomes the release of Odon Mwamba, a reporter for "La Grogne", a privately-owned newspaper published in Lubumbashi.

Mwamba was released on 26 October 2011 at approximately 3:00 p.m. (local time) following JED's call to abbot Twité, a local monk who brought the case against Mwamba, asking him to request that the journalist be released immediately and to await the court's ruling on the matter.

Mwamba was arrested on 23 October 2011 for attempting to verify information regarding an alleged affair between the abbot and a young woman from Lubumbashi.
