News director in Ecuador receives threatening letter

On July 19, 2013, Vicepresident of News at the Canal Uno network, Rafael Cuesta Caputi reported on Twitter that he received a death threat from an unknown person.

Cuesta Caputi posted a screen shot of the threat, that read: “If you keep doing so well, you die”. Cuesta wrote in his Twitter account: “I received this threat yesterday. I guess someone is upset about my journalistic work”.

Currently, Cuesta Caputi has an opinion program in the news segment of Canal Uno. In 2000, when he was news director of TC Television network, he was attacked by a letter-bomb and was seriously injured. In 2010, the State of Ecuador recognized international responsibility for the lack of due investigation on this matter, as a consequence of a procedure before the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR) of the Organization of American States.
