World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers: WAN-IFRA calls on the Egyptian authorities to protect journalists covering the ongoing demonstrations and to allow the press to fulfil its role in providing credible, critical and timely information to the society. Journalists covering the demonstrations must be free to report without fear of attack or arrest.

Index on Censorship: As long as censors can flick a switch on the Internet, cut off mobile phones and satellites with ease, target the international media and turn foreign financed tanks on peaceful protest, then half the battle for free expression in Egypt has to be fought in the corporate offices and government agencies of Europe and North America. That's our duty.

Freedom House: The events in Egypt are an inspiration to all people struggling to be free and it is through the work of courageous journalists and press freedom defenders like yourselves, some of whom have risked personal safety and comfort to cover the demonstrations, that the world has been able to watch the events unfold. Please keep up the great work!

Cartoonists Rights Network International: Cartoonists Rights Network International salutes the brave journalists and cartoonists in Egypt. We have seen a remarkable number of cartoons being produced all over the world, but especially from the region . . . The dictators and tyrants in the MENA region are put on notice that all the guns and troops in their arsenals, all the torture chambers in their dungeons, can't turn lies into truths. - Robert Russell, Director

PEN Canada: PEN Canada strongly condemns the violence used against peaceful pro-democracy protestors, journalists and independent media who have recently come under attack in Egypt; we call on the Egyptian authorities to release anyone detained solely for the peaceful exercise of their right to free expression, and to guarantee the safety of those seeking to report on the protests.

Canadian Journalists For Free Expression: To the staff and members of ANHRI, CIHRS and EOHR
CJFE has been deeply concerned by the organized attacks and violence against the media in Egypt designed to cut Egyptians off from information vital to them during this time of conflict; knowing how incredibly difficult and dangerous this situation is for you we want to assure you that your colleagues in Canada stand with you in spirit and are ready to help in any way that we can.
