Apply now for Hellman/Hammett grants

Human Rights Watch is seeking nominations for 2010 Hellman/Hammett grants, which provide financial support for writers around the world who have been victims of political persecution. The deadline for nominations is 10 December 2010.

Nominators should provide biographical information about the writer, the circumstances of persecution, samples or characterisations of the writer's literary or journalistic work, and information about financial need.

Winners will be announced in spring 2011.

The programme also provides limited funds for emergency grants to writers whose lives are at risk unless they flee their country or those needing immediate medical treatment after serving prison terms or enduring torture.
