Nominations wanted for Hrant Dink Award

The Hrant Dink Award is presented annually by a foundation in his name to individuals or groups that work for a world free from discrimination, racism and violence, and who take personal risks to achieve those goals. The deadline for nominations is 15 April.

Each year, two awards are granted: one to an entry from Turkey, and the other to an entry from abroad.

Journalist Hrant Dink launched the first Turkish-Armenian weekly, "Agos", in 1996. For writing critically about Turkish-Armenian relations, Dink was one of dozens of writers to be charged under controversial laws against insulting "Turkishness". On 19 January 2007, he was shot dead in front of his newspaper office.

The International Hrant Dink Award winners will be announced on Dink's birthday, 15 September.
