Make some noise to help defend the free expression rights of LGBT people!

International IDAHO Committee

Right now people around the world are increasingly being silenced because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. In spite of some advances, a majority of the world's population live in countries with laws that criminalise LGBT identities and ban sharing information and ideas about sexual orientation or gender identity.

Repressive legislation, intimidation and violence restrict the right to free expression of LGBT people and all those who speak out on LGBT issues.

Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right regardless of sexuality or gender.

More than 160 IFEX members and supporters have endorsed a global call urging on all heads of states to protect the free expression rights of the LGBT community. Now it's your turn to join us and make some noise during this Thunderclap campaign!

On 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), ARTICLE 19, IDAHO Committee and IFEX are launching a Thunderclap to join thousands of voices together to demand that freedom of expression rights be respected.

Join the Thunderclap. Add your voice to the social media storm for the free expression rights of LGBT people this May 17.

There is still time to add your organisation's voice to the global statement signed by more than 160 IFEX members and supporters! Please send confirmation to campaigns (@) ifex ( . ) org by 16 May 2014 at 12pm EST / 5pm GMT.
