Bomb hurled at FM radio station in Birgunj

(FNJ/IFEX) - A bomb was hurled at the premises of Indreni FM 97.6 radio station in the town of Birgunj, in the central district of Nepal, on 30 January 2008 at approximately 8:00 p.m. (local time).

According to the press statement by the Broadcasting Association of Nepal (BAN), an unidentified group hurled a bomb at the FM station with the intention of threatening the media outlet. Dhakal added that the bomb did not cause any damage to the station and the media outlet's staff was not injured.

The FNJ has condemned the incident and has urged the government to find and punish the guilty. The federation has also urged government to make a serious effort to ensure the safety and security of the media.
