(FNJ/IFEX) – The Janakpur-based “Terai Times” and its journalist Kamal Sah and computer operator Jaya Kumar Chaudhari were attacked by an unidentified group of individuals on 20 October 2008 at the newspaper’s office in Janakpur, Dhanusha, a Terai district located in the central region of Nepal.
The group entered the newspaper’s office at around 9:30 p.m. (local time) and vandalised the office equipment and Sah’s mobile phone in addition to assaulting Sah and Chaudhari. The office furniture, television and computers were damaged by the attackers. The reason for the attack is not yet known. In a press release, the FNJ denounced the attack and asked the government to sentence those responsible for the attack and make them provide proper compensation for the damages.
