Journalist attacked with sharp weapons by unidentified suspects

(FNJ/IFEX) - Ram Mani Upadhyaya, editor of "Basudha" fortnightly and a member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Dhanusha chapter, was attacked and seriously injured by an unidentified group of people armed with sharp weapons on 24 October at around 8:30 pm. The incident happened in his shop near Pidariya Mayi's temple at Janakpur municipality-4, Dhanusha district, in the central region of the country.

Upadhyaya was brought to Kathmandu for the treatment of his serious injury. FNJ president Dharmendra Jha and general secretary Poshan K.C. met the injured journalist and offered NRS. 5,000 for his treatment from the journalist's welfare fund.

FNJ denounced the attack, terming it barbaric and asked the government to provide complete treatment expenses, proper compensation and to punish the guilty immediately.

Likewise, FNJ also condemns the unlawful search operation by the police force in the house of journalist and central council representative of FNJ B.M. Khanal recently.
